Who should not take Olivaro? Label warnings and cautions

Quick answer

Who should not take Olivaro without asking first? The label says pregnant or nursing mothers, children under the age of 18 and people with a known medical condition should consult a physician. Anyone on insulin or diabetes medicine should ask a clinician or pharmacist, and no one should stop or change a prescribed medicine because of a supplement.

The short answer

Who should not take Olivaro?

No web page can clear you to take a supplement. The label names three groups who should consult a physician first: pregnant or nursing mothers, children under the age of 18 and individuals with a known medical condition.

Olivaro is a liquid dietary supplement. It is not a drug and not a diabetes medicine. The caution printed on the bottle reads: Do not exceed recommended dose. Pregnant or nursing mothers, children under the age of 18 and individuals with a known medical condition should consult a physician before using this or any dietary supplement. Keep out of the reach of children. Do not use if safety seal is damaged or missing.

Many adults fall into the third group, because "a known medical condition" can mean diabetes, high blood pressure, or a heart, liver, kidney or thyroid condition. Keep taking prescribed medicine exactly as directed while you ask.

On the bottle

What does the label say about pregnancy, nursing and under 18?

It says to consult a physician before using this or any dietary supplement. It gives no age range other than "children under the age of 18", and it does not say Olivaro is safe or unsafe in pregnancy.

We found no source in our set on any of the 22 blend ingredients in pregnancy, in nursing or in children, so we cannot say more than the label does. Go before the first dose.

Diabetes medicine

Can you take Olivaro if you take insulin or diabetes pills?

Ask your clinician or pharmacist first. We cannot say it is safe with your medicine, and we found no study of Olivaro with any diabetes medicine.

NIDDK says insulin and two kinds of diabetes pills, sulfonylureas and meglitinides, can cause low blood sugar (NIDDK, Low blood glucose (hypoglycemia)). A supplement that might lower blood sugar adds to insulin, so ask your pharmacist. NIH says chromium could add to the effect of insulin and metformin (NIH ODS, Chromium). The label's chromium is 0.7 mcg, 2% of the 35 mcg Daily Value, but the blend holds 21 other ingredients with no printed amounts.

Never stop, skip, reduce or change a prescribed medicine because of a supplement. Never take a supplement in place of a test or a visit: the ADA's 2026 Standards of Care do not recommend herbs or micronutrients for glycemic benefit (ADA 2026, Standards of Care, supplements). A home reading is your own data, not an Olivaro result.

Blood pressure and heart

Who should be careful with blood pressure, heart or blood thinner medicine?

Anyone who takes blood pressure, blood thinner or heart-rhythm medicine, or who has high blood pressure or a heart condition, should ask a clinician first.

Three blend rows carry a reason. NCCIH says Asian ginseng might lower blood sugar and can cause insomnia (NCCIH, Asian ginseng). LactMed says eleuthero is not true ginseng, that there is no good human evidence for its uses, and that it may raise blood pressure, bleeding or blood sugar (LactMed, Eleuthero). A review of licorice says glycyrrhizin can lower potassium and raise blood pressure, with meta-analyses showing systolic pressure up 5.45 mmHg (Deutch 2019, licorice and blood pressure).

The review is about glycyrrhizin in general. It does not discuss monoammonium glycyrrhizinate, which is the form on this label, and the label prints no amount for it. We found no source that names a specific blood thinner or heart-rhythm drug with any of these rows.

Liver

Should you avoid Olivaro if you have liver disease?

Talk to your clinician first. LiverTox lists two blend ingredients as possible rare causes of liver injury, gymnema leaf and green tea extract.

LiverTox gives 400 mg three times daily as a typical gymnema dose (LiverTox, Gymnema) and links green tea extract to case reports of liver injury (LiverTox, green tea). The label prints no amount for either, and the whole blend is 200 mg for 22 ingredients.

Stop and get medical care for dark urine, yellow skin or eyes, or belly pain.

Caffeine

Who should avoid the caffeine sources in Olivaro?

Anyone sensitive to caffeine, or with sleep trouble, anxiety or a heart-rhythm problem, should ask a clinician first. Guarana and green tea are both in the blend, and the label prints no caffeine amount.

A review says guarana seeds hold up to 6% caffeine (Schimpl 2013, guarana review). FDA says 400 mg a day is not generally associated with dangerous effects in healthy adults, and that supplements add to that total (FDA, Spilling the Beans caffeine).

Stop signs

When should you stop and call for help?

Stop the liquid and get care for rash, hives, swelling, dark urine, yellow skin or eyes, belly pain, or low blood sugar signs that do not pass. Call 911 for severe symptoms.

Severe low blood sugar (confusion, fainting or a seizure), chest pain, a racing or irregular heartbeat, and trouble breathing are emergencies. The bottle contains xylitol, which FDA says is dangerous for dogs (FDA, Xylitol dangerous for dogs). Keep it out of reach of pets and children.

Is Olivaro for people under 18?

The label says children under the age of 18 should consult a physician before using it. Keep the bottle out of children's reach.

Can I take Olivaro with a known medical condition?

Ask first. The label tells individuals with a known medical condition to consult a physician. Bring the bottle and your medicine list.

Who should not take it because of the liver?

People with liver disease, or past liver trouble, should ask a clinician first. LiverTox lists gymnema and green tea extract as possible rare causes of liver injury. The label gives no amount for either.
