Side effects and warnings

Olivaro side effects: what to watch for and when to call 911

Quick answer

Olivaro side effects are not documented, because no study tested the liquid. Known cautions come from its ingredients: low blood sugar when added to diabetes medicine, caffeine from guarana and green tea, rare liver reports with gymnema and green tea extract, and xylitol, which is dangerous for dogs. Ask a clinician first.

The short answer

What are the side effects of Olivaro?

No study has measured the side effects of Olivaro, so a complete list does not exist. What we have are cautions for single ingredients.

The label prints a caution but no list of effects: "Do not exceed recommended dose" and a physician check for pregnant or nursing mothers, anyone under 18 and anyone with a known medical condition Do not exceed recommended dose. Pregnant or nursing mothers, children under the age of 18 and individuals with a known medical condition should consult a physician before using this or any dietary supplement. Keep out of the reach of children. Do not use if safety seal is damaged or missing.. The blend lists 22 ingredients with one 200 mg total, so we cannot tell which ingredients are present in an amount that matters (Saldanha 2023, proprietary blends perspectives).

We also cannot say the liquid has no side effects. Nobody has looked. Is Olivaro safe? We cannot call it safe, and the FDA does not approve supplements before sale (FDA 101 supplements).

Keep taking prescribed medicine exactly as directed

Severe low blood sugar (confusion, fainting, seizure), chest pain or trouble breathing: call 911.

Medicines

Can Olivaro cause low blood sugar with diabetes medicine?

We found no report that Olivaro causes it. The concern is an addition: a supplement that might lower blood sugar adds to medicine that can.

Insulin, sulfonylureas and meglitinides can cause low blood sugar, which for many people with diabetes means a reading below 70 mg/dL (NIDDK, Low blood glucose (hypoglycemia)). NIH says chromium could add to the effect of insulin and metformin, and the label has chromium at 0.7 mcg (NIH ODS, Chromium). NCCIH says Asian ginseng might lower blood sugar (NCCIH, Asian ginseng), and ginseng is in the blend with no amount printed. LiverTox reports mild falls in fasting glucose with gymnema, also in the blend (LiverTox, Gymnema). We found no source naming a drug interaction for gymnema.

Ask your clinician or pharmacist before you add any supplement, and never stop or change a prescribed medicine because of one. See medicine interactions.

Low blood sugar: what NIDDK says

  • Feeling shaky or jittery
  • Hunger
  • Tiredness
  • Dizziness
  • Confusion or irritability
  • A fast or irregular heartbeat
  • Headache
  • Trouble seeing or speaking clearly

What the sources say to doFor many people with diabetes, low means a reading below 70 mg/dL (your targets may differ: ask your team). NIDDK says to eat or drink 15 to 20 grams of glucose or carbohydrate, recheck after 15 minutes and repeat if still low.

Severe symptomsCall 911Loss of consciousness or a seizure needs treatment right away: glucagon if available, and call 911.

Who is more likely to have lowsInsulin and two kinds of diabetes pills (sulfonylureas and meglitinides) can cause low blood sugar. A supplement that might lower blood sugar adds to that: ask your pharmacist.

Not medical advice. A home meter reading is your own data, not an Olivaro result. (NIDDK, Low blood glucose (hypoglycemia)) (NIH ODS, Chromium)

Stimulants

Does Olivaro contain caffeine, and can it cause jitters?

It has two caffeine sources, guarana seed and green tea leaf, and the label prints no caffeine amount. Do not assume it is caffeine-free.

Guarana seeds hold up to 6% caffeine (Schimpl 2013, guarana review). FDA gives 400 mg a day as a level most healthy adults can handle, and it notes that supplements add to the total from drinks (FDA, Spilling the Beans caffeine). That is a reference level, not a dose found in the bottle. Caffeine can cause jitters, a fast heartbeat and poor sleep. Ask a clinician if you are sensitive, have trouble sleeping or anxiety, or have a heart condition. NCCIH lists insomnia for Asian ginseng (NCCIH, Asian ginseng).

The liver

Can ingredients in Olivaro affect the liver?

LiverTox lists gymnema and green tea extract as rare possible causes of liver injury. The label prints no amount of either, and no source links Olivaro to any case.

For gymnema, LiverTox gives 400 mg three times daily as a typical dose, or 1,200 mg, and the whole Olivaro blend is 200 mg for 22 ingredients (LiverTox, Gymnema). For green tea extract, LiverTox describes case reports of liver injury (LiverTox, green tea). Both are reports, not rates.

Stop the liquid and get medical care the same day for dark urine, yellow skin or eyes, or belly pain. Tell your clinician if you have liver disease before you start.

Ingredient by ingredient

What warnings apply to other Olivaro ingredients?

Several have their own cautions, and several have no source at all. The table keeps the two apart.

Reported cautions by ingredient, and the gaps
IngredientWhat a source reportsLabel amount
EleutheroMay raise blood pressure, bleeding and blood sugar; "no good human evidence" for its uses (LactMed, Eleuthero)Not printed
Monoammonium glycyrrhizinateGlycyrrhizin can cause low potassium and higher blood pressure; the review does not cover this exact compound (Deutch 2019, licorice and blood pressure)Not printed
L-arginine11 trials, 387 people: 4 to 24 g a day lowered systolic blood pressure by 5.4 mm Hg (Dong 2011, arginine BP)Not printed; at most 200 mg
L-carnitineStomach effects at about 3 g a day (NIH ODS, Carnitine)Not printed
Beta-alanineTingling (paresthesia) is the reported effect (ISSN beta-alanine stand)Not printed
Grapefruit extractWe found no source on extracts; the FDA page covers juice and fruit onlyNot printed
L-tryptophan, L-glutamine, L-tyrosine, L-ornithine, GABAWe found no sourceNot printed
Coleus forskohliiOne review calls adverse effects "generally mild and infrequent", with no dose; we found no other safety source (Nikkhah 2026, Coleus forskohlii review)Not printed

Arginine is a useful example of the gap. If it were most of the blend, 200 mg would still be at most 5% of 4,000 mg (200 / 4,000). Tell your clinician if you take blood pressure or blood thinner medicine.

Allergies and pets

Who should watch for allergic reactions or keep it from pets?

Anyone allergic to a plant on the list should skip it or ask first, and every household with a dog should store the bottle out of reach.

The panel lists plant extracts including maca, grape seed, guarana, green tea, capsicum and grapefruit, plus lemon extract in the other ingredients. A rash, hives or swelling is a reason to stop and get help. Swelling of the face or throat or trouble breathing is an emergency: call 911. To report a reaction, see FDA's reporting page (FDA report a problem).

Xylitol is dangerous for dogs

It is listed among the other ingredients. Keep the bottle away from pets, and call a vet or animal poison control right away if a dog may have swallowed some (FDA, Xylitol dangerous for dogs). We found no source on xylitol's effects on people's stomachs.

When to get care

When should you stop Olivaro and get care?

Stop and get care for the signs below. Call 911 for fainting, a seizure, chest pain or trouble breathing.

  1. Shaky, sweaty, confused, very hungry, a fast heartbeatThese can be signs of low blood sugar. NIDDK says to eat or drink 15 to 20 grams of carbohydrate and recheck in 15 minutes; get care if it keeps happening.
  2. Fainting, a seizure or being unable to wake someoneCall 911. Severe low blood sugar needs treatment right away.
  3. Chest pain, a racing or irregular heartbeat, trouble breathingStop the liquid. Chest pain, fainting or trouble breathing: call 911 now.
  4. Dark urine, yellow skin or eyes, belly pain, nauseaCan be signs of liver trouble, which LiverTox lists as a rare possibility with gymnema and green tea extract. Stop and get medical care the same day.
  5. Rash, hives or swellingPossible allergy. Stop and get medical help; swelling of the face or throat or trouble breathing is an emergency.
  6. A dog or other pet swallowed someThe liquid contains xylitol. Call a vet, an emergency clinic or animal poison control right away (FDA).

Signs from (NIDDK, Low blood glucose (hypoglycemia)) (LiverTox, Gymnema) (FDA, Xylitol dangerous for dogs) (FDA report a problem). This list is not complete. A supplement is never a reason to wait.

FAQ

Olivaro side effects: common questions

Is Olivaro safe to take every day?

We cannot say it is safe, because no study tested Olivaro. The label says to take 1 or 2 droppers full daily and not to exceed the recommended dose. Ask a clinician or pharmacist first, especially if you take medicine or have a medical condition.

Does Olivaro cause stomach upset?

We found no report of stomach upset with Olivaro. One ingredient, L-carnitine, can cause stomach effects at about 3 g a day, far above anything the 200 mg blend could hold. We found no source on xylitol and the stomach.

Can Olivaro interact with blood pressure medicine?

It might. Ginseng, eleuthero and glycyrrhizin are linked to blood pressure changes in the sources we read, and the label prints no amounts. Ask your clinician or pharmacist, and keep taking prescribed medicine exactly as directed.

Does Olivaro have caffeine?

It has two caffeine sources, guarana seed and green tea leaf, but the label prints no caffeine amount. We cannot call it caffeine-free. If caffeine affects your sleep or heart rate, ask a clinician first.

Can I take Olivaro while pregnant or nursing?

The label says pregnant or nursing mothers should consult a physician before using this or any dietary supplement. We found no study of Olivaro in pregnancy or nursing. Ask your physician first.

How do I report a bad reaction to Olivaro?

Get care first if the reaction is serious. Then tell your clinician and the seller's order desk, and report it through FDA's reporting page for dietary supplements. Keep the bottle, the lot code and your order ID for reference.
