Fasting blood sugar
Fasting glucose ranges: 99, 100 to 125 and 126 mg/dL explained
Fasting glucose is a lab test of plasma glucose taken after fasting. NIDDK, using American Diabetes Association criteria, lists 99 mg/dL or below as normal, 100 to 125 mg/dL as prediabetes and 126 mg/dL or above as diabetes for adults who are not pregnant. A second test usually confirms the result.

The numbers
What is a normal fasting glucose?
A normal fasting glucose is 99 mg/dL or below for adults who are not pregnant; 100 to 125 mg/dL is the prediabetes range and 126 mg/dL or above is the diabetes range (NIDDK, Diabetes tests and diagnosis).
These cutoffs come from NIDDK, which draws them from American Diabetes Association criteria. Pregnancy uses different cutoffs, so ask your clinician if you are pregnant.
| Result | Fasting plasma glucose |
|---|---|
| Normal | 99 mg/dL or below |
| Prediabetes | 100 to 125 mg/dL |
| Diabetes | 126 mg/dL or above |

Which range does my fasting blood sugar fall in?
Type a fasting number below and the lookup shows which NIDDK row it matches. It is a reading aid, not a diagnosis.
Test ranges for adults who are not pregnant (NIDDK, from ADA criteria)
| Result | A1C | Fasting plasma glucose |
|---|---|---|
| Normal | Below 5.7% | 99 mg/dL or below |
| Prediabetes | 5.7% to 6.4% | 100 to 125 mg/dL |
| Diabetes | 6.5% or above | 126 mg/dL or above |
Usually a second test confirms diabetes. Pregnancy uses different cutoffs. These are ranges for tests a clinician orders; a supplement cannot tell you where you are. (NIDDK, Diabetes tests and diagnosis)
Fasting blood sugar means a reading taken after a period without food. We found no source in our set for how long, so follow the instructions from your lab or clinician. A number from a home meter is your own data and may not match a lab result.
One reading is not a diagnosis
Why does a second fasting glucose test matter?
NIDDK says that usually a second test confirms diabetes, so one high number is a prompt to follow up, not a verdict (NIDDK, Diabetes tests and diagnosis).
A clinician may repeat the fasting test or add an A1C. If your result lands at 100 mg/dL or above, ask what the next step is and when to retest. See when to see a clinician.
Keep taking prescribed medicine. Signs of severe low blood sugar (confusion, fainting, seizure), chest pain or trouble breathing: call 911.

Does the Olivaro label say anything about fasting glucose?
Yes, as a printed line: one icon reads “Fasting Blood Sugar Health Support*”, and the star leads to the FDA statement that it has not been evaluated.
We found no trial of that claim on this liquid. In a meta-analysis of 10 trials with 509 people who had type 2 diabetes, chromium did not change fasting glucose compared with placebo (Zhao 2022, chromium type 2 diabetes meta). In 6 trials with 382 people who had prediabetes or type 2 diabetes, green tea also made no difference (Yu 2017, green tea glycemic meta). The label's chromium is 0.7 mcg, 2% of the Daily Value, and those trials did not report label doses. The 22 blend ingredients share 200 mg with no amounts printed.
A bottle is not a test. The benefits page sets each label claim beside what studies measured.

FAQ
Olivaro questions people ask
Is a fasting glucose of 100 mg/dL a problem?
NIDDK places 100 to 125 mg/dL in the prediabetes range, so 100 is the first number above normal. One reading does not make a diagnosis. Ask your clinician whether to repeat the test and what to do next.
Is fasting blood sugar the same as A1C?
No. Fasting blood sugar is a plasma glucose test taken after fasting and reported in mg/dL. A1C is a separate test reported as a percent. NIDDK gives cutoffs for each, and a clinician may use both.
Can a supplement bring a fasting glucose into the normal range?
We found no source showing that. The American Diabetes Association's 2026 Standards of Care say herbs and micronutrients are not recommended for glycemic benefit. Only a test, read by a clinician, tells you where you are.
