Small blend rows

Beta-alanine, GABA and L-tryptophan supplement rows: what studies used

Quick answer

Beta-alanine, GABA and L-tryptophan are three of the 22 names in the Olivaro blend, which shares one 200 mg total with no amounts. Beta-alanine trials used 4 to 6 g a day for exercise, and tingling was the main side effect. We found no source for GABA or L-tryptophan. None of the three has a blood sugar claim.

Beta-alanine

What do studies of beta-alanine and GABA actually use?

For beta-alanine, studies used gram doses for exercise, not blood sugar; for GABA, we found no source to report.

The International Society of Sports Nutrition reports that 4 to 6 g a day for at least 2 to 4 weeks improved exercise performance, mostly in efforts lasting 1 to 4 minutes (ISSN beta-alanine stand). A meta-analysis of 40 placebo-controlled studies with 1,461 people found a small overall effect, 0.18 (Saunders 2017, beta-alanine).

The label's blend is at most 200 mg in all, shared by 22 names. Next to 4 g (4,000 mg), 200 / 4,000 is at most 5%, and the label does not say beta-alanine holds the whole blend. No trial tested Olivaro.

Side effects

Does beta-alanine cause tingling?

Yes, tingling, called paresthesia, is the side effect the reviews report (Dolan 2019, beta-alanine safety).

A risk assessment of 101 human studies found paresthesia was the only reported side effect, at 8.9 times the odds of placebo, while dropout matched placebo. The ISSN adds that it can be reduced with divided doses or sustained-release forms (ISSN beta-alanine stand).

The gaps

What about the L-tryptophan supplement row and GABA?

We found no source on either that we can cite, so we make no claim about doses, effects or medicine interactions.

That gap matters if you take medicine for mood or sleep. Bring the label to a pharmacist and ask. See the amino acids page and the proprietary blend.

Keep your care plan

Keep taking prescribed medicine; never stop or change it because of a supplement. Severe low blood sugar (confusion, fainting, seizure), chest pain or trouble breathing: call 911. Dark urine, yellow skin or eyes or belly pain: stop and get care.

Blood sugar

Is beta-alanine, GABA or tryptophan a blood sugar ingredient?

No source we read ties any of the three to blood sugar, so the label's blood sugar line cannot lean on them.

The bars are an editor's reading of human evidence, row by row. They do not rate Olivaro, and no trial tested the liquid.

  • Chromium

    Very little

NIH calls the clinical significance of chromium's small effects 'unclear'; the label's 0.7 mcg is 2% of the Daily Value. (NIH ODS, Chromium) (Zhao 2022, chromium type 2 diabetes meta)

  • Gymnema

    Very little

Studies were small, mostly before-and-after, and very mixed; LiverTox says effectiveness in diabetes 'has not been shown'. (Devangan 2021, gymnema type 2 diabetes meta) (LiverTox, Gymnema)

  • The review looked at body fat, not blood sugar, and found inconsistent weight results. (Nikkhah 2026, Coleus forskohlii review)

  • Six trials of green tea found no difference in HbA1c or fasting glucose; guarana seeds hold up to 6% caffeine. (Yu 2017, green tea glycemic meta) (LiverTox, green tea)

  • Ginseng & herbs

    Very little

Results are mixed and the trials used preparations and doses the label does not match; ginseng lowered fasting glucose by 0.31 mmol/L in one meta-analysis. (Shishtar 2014, ginseng glycemic meta) (NCCIH, Asian ginseng)

  • Amino acids

    None shown

We found no source tying these amino acids at the blend's unstated amounts to blood sugar; NIH calls carnitine results in type 2 diabetes mixed. (NIH ODS, Carnitine) (Dong 2011, arginine BP)

  • Xylitol is dangerous for dogs; glycyrrhizin can raise blood pressure and lower potassium in large amounts. (FDA, Xylitol dangerous for dogs) (Zare 2024, stevia glucose meta)

Our plain reading of the research linked on each row, for blood sugar, glucose or weight, on a 0 to 4 scale. It rates the ingredient as studied, at the studied amounts. It does not rate Olivaro: no study has tested the liquid, and the label prints no amount for most rows.

FAQ

Olivaro questions people ask

How common is beta-alanine tingling?

A risk assessment of 101 human studies found paresthesia at 8.9 times the odds of placebo. Those doses were grams a day. The Olivaro label prints no beta-alanine amount, so we cannot say how much a serving holds.

Can you take L-tryptophan with mood medicine?

We found no source we can cite on that, so we cannot say. Ask a pharmacist before combining any supplement with medicine for mood or sleep. Bring the Olivaro label, which lists L-tryptophan with no amount.

Does GABA in a supplement lower blood sugar?

We found no source showing that, and the label makes no such claim. GABA is one of 22 names sharing 200 mg, with no individual amount printed. A clinician's tests, not a supplement, show where your blood sugar is.
